How do I overcome what my brain sees as normal, a set point?
I was asked this question today and here are a couple of thoughts:
It’s useful to view ourselves as sculptors. They take thousands of hammer swings as they chip away and the work of art emerges. Every swing moves the project forward. We too just need to keep chipping away at our doubt, limiting beliefs etc.

Secondly, the life of our dreams lies outside our comfort zone. So if we want things to be different, we have to lean into the discomfort and do those things we don’t feel like doing. We have to push ourselves to take actions that make us uncomfortable. When we do this, our comfort zone recalibrates and these new ways of thinking and acting become within the norm – thus creating a new normal, an upgraded normal.
Thirdly, we need to learn to see our resistance as our friend. Our resistance just shows us where we are still embracing limitation. Once we see it, we can take steps to let go of it. That’s where a daily practice of letting go and upgrading consciousness is invaluable!
The set point can indeed be raised – and it is going to take some work and some consistency on our part to make that happen.
