Gratitude Wake Up
Gratitude is a wonderful practice. And there’s a less effective and a more effective way to do it.
To be most effective, our gratitude practice needs to wake us up rather than lull us into a lower energy state.
Here are 3 things to pay attention to.
- Really feel the gratitude and be present rather than being on auto-pilot.
- Mix it up. Be grateful about something new and different every day.
- Include a “why” or a “because”. Notice the difference between: I’m grateful to live in Colorado and I’m grateful to live in Colorado because it is so beautiful here. The “because” makes the statement so much stronger and brings so much more energy.
I had a great gratitude opportunity this evening. I saw Shawn Achor speak at the Paramount Theatre. Afterwards I was able to shake his hand and express my gratitude for his brilliant work because I use it with my clients every single day.
I’ve referred a ton of people to his Ted talk. If you haven’t watched this yet, do yourself a favor and watch it now. http://www.ted.com/talks/
