I have to make up for that
One of my volleyball team mate’s game goes to heck after he makes a couple of mistakes. He starts making silly mistakes. He starts trying to make plays on balls that aren’t his to make while not making the plays that are his to make. I’m pretty sure that in his head he thinks that he needs to make up for the mistake that he just made.
Once we do something like that, we are in trouble. Putting ourselves under stress and pressure pretty much assures further poor performance. Our bodies and our minds simply do not work as well under stress and pressure as they do under positivity and happiness.
First of all, it is okay to make mistakes. It is part of being a human. Secondly, we don’t need to make up for our mistakes. We just need to move forward from where we are now. We need to let go and move on.
This is just as true in other areas of life as it is in sports. Also, “needing to make up for” has us looking at the past (which we cannot change) and has us feel guilty. Instead, we are much better served by looking at what is coming at us now.
Much Love,
