Thomas Jefferson is giving me a hard time

(To understand this Daily Dose, you need to know that we saw the musical, Hamilton, on our recent trip to NY. It is the life history of Alexander Hamilton and it is amazing!!!)

Imagine that you ran into Lin-Manuel Miranda, the guy who plays Hamilton, and asked him, “How’s it going?”

Then imagine that he replied, “Thomas Jefferson is driving me crazy!”

That would be really weird. That would mean he forgot that Hamilton is only a role he is playing, not his true identity.

You know what else is really weird? We do this all the time. We forget that our true identity is a perfect 10, a much loved child of a loving God. Instead we think that the roles we are playing (spouse, parent, friend, entrepreneur, sales person, leader, etc.) is actually our identity. This cause us to think things like “I’m an idiot” etc. when we under-perform in one of our roles.

This is as silly as Lin-Manuel telling us that Thomas Jefferson is really getting on his nerves.
