People often talk about time management but we really cannot manage time. You cannot bank the time you saved today and have 24 hours and 45 minutes tomorrow. You cannot make the clock speed up or slow down.
However, there are other things that we can manage.
Priority Management: Are you spending your time on the stuff that really matters to you and will make a positive impact in your life? Or, are you spending your time on things that are irrelevant, mundane, or insignificant?
Story Management: Usually when people talk about time management, it means that there is something they know they should be doing but are not doing – exercising, making phone calls, follow up etc. But, the reason people are not doing these things is because they are telling themselves a lousy disempowering story. In the face of these stories – procrastination, avoidance, and hesitation are perfectly natural responses. But, we can always tell ourselves better stories. Change your story, change your life.
Feeling Management: Just like with our stories, we can change our feelings. It is so much easier to be productive when we are feeling good feelings.
Energy Management: It is so much easier to be in action when our energy is up. We are more productive, effective, resilient, and creative when our energy is up. Every day we have hundreds of choices to either bring our energy up or to bring our energy down.
These are the things we can manage – not time.
