Shoveling snow with a tablespoon
The next time that it snows (hopefully next winter), I could shovel my driveway with a tablespoon. I’d sure be busy and have a lot of action going on.
I could also use a snow shovel. I would not be as busy for as long compared to using the tablespoon.
And, I could use my snow blower which would have me get done even quicker.
In each of these 3 scenarios, the desired end result is the same – a clean driveway. But the amount of time and effort is different in each option which means that the productivity is different in each option.
Obviously options 2 and 3 are far superior to option 1. But, in business and in life people often confuse busyness with productivity. They are not the same.
If person A needs to make 100 calls in order to get one new sale and person B only needs to make 25 calls in order to get that new sale, person B can work half as much while making twice as much as person A. A is busy. B is productive.
That’s why learning, growing, mastering our craft, letting go of limitations, and developing our sales skills are so very important. These all help us to become more productive.
