Letting go of the Past
It can be a great challenge to not bring our past into our present.
We have some experiences and then we make up a story, a rule, a generalization that this is the way it is. Presto, the birth of a limiting belief.
Here’s the thing to remember ~ when we change, grow, and upgrade our belief systems, the past is no longer an accurate predictor of our future. (If we don’t grow, it is.) We can create something brand new. But in order to do that, we need to leave the past behind.
That was then. This is now. And, now can be completely different.
I was talking about this with a friend yesterday when this analogy popped into my mind: Imagine that you keep racing your bicycle and you keep losing. After a bunch of losing, you start to get pretty frustrated. You might even think about quitting. Then you notice that all this time, you have been racing with a partially flat tire.
Once you pump up that tire, you can throw out all that history of losing because it is no longer relevant. You don’t need to bring your history with you because you’ve taken care of the thing that was holding you back and so now it is a new day, and a new race, and a new ride.
Changing our belief systems creates a new day, a new race, and a new us so we can let go of the past and be curious about how this will unfold.
Much love,
Jonathan
