Confusing Mile Markers With Destinations

Share this:

My daughter graduated from 6th grade today. Imagine her saying, “Well now that I’ve graduated 6th grade I’ve arrived.” Or, “I’ll be happy now.” Or, “Good, that should prove that I am enough.”

That would be ridiculous. But that’s what we tend to do in our lives. “Oh, when I hit SMD/RVP/Blue Diamond/100K ring/top producer’s roundtable/etc. I will have arrived. Then I will definitely be happy and will most certainly be enough.”

These are milestones on the journey, not the end of the journey. And yes, let us celebrate the mile stones. But let us not make them into something they are not. When we give mile stones extra significance, they tend to drag us down and slow down growth and progress.

Remember, life is the journey!
