Choosing the lesser pain
When I was in high school, I went on a rafting trip. As usually happens, we stopped at a spot where there was a cliff and a deep section of the river.
My friend, Rod, and I decided to go jump but when we got to the edge of the cliff we changed our minds. We decided that we really did not need to put ourselves through that. However as soon as we started our retreat, we saw two cute females headed towards us.
I turned to Rod and said, “On the count of three!” and we jumped.
The pain of jumping was far far far less than the pain of walking by those girls. It made our choice really easy.
A friend of mine had been procrastinating on a project for months. I got him to agree to a group of us that if he didn’t get it done within the next couple of weeks he would get a t-shirt made that said, “I LOVE George Bush”. And, he would have to wear it in public at least 5 times. He got the project done!
The pain of the George Bush t-shirt made his choice really easy.
Where could you use this strategy?
Much Love,
