Working the drive through window
Imagine that you are working the drive through window. As the car is about to leave, you reach out through the window and grab on to the car.
How’s this going to turn out for you? You’ll probably break a few ribs as you are pulled through the window and then a concussion.
A much better plan is to just let the car drive away.
Just like the cars come and go in the drive through, so do our thoughts come and go. As long as we don’t grab onto the car or those thoughts, we don’t get hurt. As soon as we grab on, we are sure to get hurt.
Just let the lousy thoughts pass on by and they will. We don’t need to combat, believe, evaluate, or argue with the lousy thoughts. We just need to not identify with them or grab on to them. Observe and then let them pass on by.
A deep breath helps with this. So does a big smile. Even better, smile and lightly tap the center of your chest.
Much Love,
