Stop Listening To The Noise
Years ago I did some work with a high school sprinter, “Stan”. His issue was that he ran much faster in practice then he did in track meets.
In the track meets, Stan would have his typical fast start but then he would hear the noise of the people behind him. This would cause him to worry about not getting passed, which would cause him to lean forward, which would cause him to lose his form, which would result in him running slower and getting what he didn’t want (he would get passed).
So we did a little mental rewiring, turning that noise behind him into a wave he could surf to victory instead of the problem that it was.
Stan went from not being able to win a race to winning a pair of national championships in the 60-meter dash during his senior year, one at Nike Nationals and the other at the Simplot Games. He was invited to the 2012 Olympic Trials.
What about your life? Are you getting knocked off track by some background noise ~ people’s opinions, taking things personally, your own crappy self-talk, perceived lack of support, etc? If so, it is time to stop listening to that noise and focus on what you do want!
Much Love,
