Right or Happy
Most people when asked whether they would rather be right or happy say that they would rather be happy. But most of the time, their behavior says just the opposite.
Would it be possible to have a fight with your significant other (or anyone else for that matter) if you weren’t trying to prove that you were right? I seriously doubt it. And how many fights have you had with that person? That’s a lot of needing to be right.
And why? Because if I’m right then that must prove that I’m okay, that I’m good enough. Except of course that it totally fails to prove this.
And, what does it do for the relationship? Does it build connection, trust, happiness, passion etc.? Of course not. So how is that being right thing working for you (and me)? Yes, not so well!
Next time you feel the need to be right, instead remind yourself that you are already okay and see how that works for you.
