Really it is okay to ask for help
The ultimate piece of head trash is “I’m not enough”. And so often this prevents people from asking for assistance.
I plays out like this: I should be able to do this on my own. If I was enough I surely would be able to. So if I ask for help, that will prove that I am insufficient. So, I better not ask for help.
Then we end up struggling and not getting the assistance we need.
I visited a friend in the hospital today who just had shoulder replacement surgery. His right arm was in a sling and he still didn’t have feeling in his right fingers but he was trying to hold his jello cup with his right hand and feed himself with his left.
It wasn’t happening. Finally, I took the jello cup and said, “You just had surgery, I’m going to help you out here.” Then I fed him the jello.
He needed the help and I was glad to provide it.
We ridiculously do this sort of thing all the time. We need to remember that it is okay to ask for help (and even a wise thing to do) and that good people are glad to provide it.
Much Love,
