Memories
Anne and I attended Sweet & Lucky earlier tonight (Denver Center for the Performing Arts largest immersive show to date).
The performance’s theme is memory and memories.
From the playbill, “Our memories shape who we are. There are moments that we want to remember forever, and those we cannot seem to forget. As we gain new ones, others slip away, and every time we look back on the past, we add a little bit of the present to it.”
Sure there are certain experiences that we have had but just like anything else that goes on in our heads, we get to choose.
Which memories do I choose to focus on?
I can choose how I want to remember something e.g. the unfairness of that situation or how I learned and grew from it.
We can also use our imagination to modify memories and create memories that didn’t actually happen. So, we can turn our “bad” memories into better memories by repeating the upgraded version. (There is a part of our brain that cannot tell real from imagined.)
As Tom Robbins said, “It is never too late to have a happy childhood.”
Do your memories support you in pursuing your most amazing life or do they hold you back?
