Damaging Visualization
You have probably heard of the importance of visualizing. But did you know that there are two possible ways to visualize? And, one of these ways is useful and one of them is damaging.
We can visualize from an associated perspective (from the view point of looking out of our own eyes) and from a disassociated perspective (from the view point of watching ourselves on a movie screen).
When we visualize what we want from the disassociated perspective, we do damage. We actually widen the gap between us and what we want because the disassociated perspective means that that is not me, it is someone else. (This is useful for letting go of trauma but not for getting what you want.)
It is essential to visualize what you want from the associated perspective.
An easy way to go from disassociated to associated is to open your eyes for a moment and get used to the perspective of looking out of your eyes. Then close your eyes and return to your visualization, keeping the looking out of your own eyes view point.
