10 out of 10 would agree
10 out of 10 people would agree that what that person did was not okay – or at least that was what I was telling myself.
But, would all 10 really agree that what this person did was inappropriate? I didn’t actually survey anybody. I just made it up in my head that everyone would agree that this person did me wrong.
Furthermore, even if I’m right that what they did is wrong, where does that leave me? I’m angry, hurt, or victimized. None of these are worthwhile ways to spend our time or life-energy.
I thought of the old saying – would you rather be right or be happy? I was choosing to be right and I was paying dearly for it – paying with forfeited happiness and peace of mind and increased suffering.
Then I switched and choose to be happy. I let go of my hurt and my right to be hurt and I let go of what that person did. They don’t get to determine whether or not I am happy. That’s my choice. They did what they did, and I choose happiness and forgiveness and letting go.
It took 2 tries but I made the right choice.
Much Love,
Jonathan
