Yeah but – how am I going to do that?
We often look at our big goals and wonder how in the heck are we going to make that happen. We can easily get overwhelmed and paralyzed by this. But, taking simple action now is how we start to achieve those big goals. We knock over the first domino and that starts a chain reaction.
I watched a fascinating video today from Professor Stephen Morris from the University of Toronto. Rather than one domino knocking over another domino of the same size, Professor Morris demonstrates that a domino can knock down something that is 1.5 times its size. So, the impact can scale up in a hurry.
He starts with a tiny domino just 5 millimeters tall. By the time the chain reaction gets to the 13th domino, that domino weighs over 100 pounds and is over one meter tall. The 29th domino would be as tall as the Empire State Building. See for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=5JCm5FY-dEY
This is a great metaphor for how we can achieve amazing things in our lives – get into action. Topple that first domino and see what that can lead to. Then topple another domino and see what that can lead to and . . .
