Waterslide Thinking
Once we start down a waterslide, we don’t have to do much to get to the end. It just takes us there. That’s what slippery slopes do.
This is a pretty good analogy for thought paths. Once we start, it is pretty easy to end up where that thought takes us. If it is a good thought, it will take us to a good place. If it is a lousy thought, it will take us to a lousy place.
However, we can alter the path of the slide so that a habitual lousy thought redirects to a good place.
Intentionally start to think that habitual negative thought and then redirect it to a different thought path. For example: I start to think “finding clients is hard”. Then after just a second or two I intentionally switch my thinking. I start to think “people want and need what I have and are very willing to pay for it”.
This process then needs to be repeated many times to establish the redirect in our brains.
Then when this happens in real life, we might automatically redirect paths or even if that does not happen, it will be much easier for us to do the redirect and end up in that good place. Imagine starting to think a crappy thought and ending up in a good place – how cool would that be!
Much Love,
Jonathan
