The importance of wins
From what I can tell, it is very important to our well-being to have wins, to have successes.
These wins give us a sense of accomplishment, satisfaction, and fulfillment. These wins can even be little things. I spent several hours last Saturday and Sunday working on my flower gardens. I weeded, I planted a bunch of new plants, and I mulched. I’ve walked outside and looked at my gardens many times since Saturday. And every time I do, I feel good. They are a win. I accomplished something. I created something of beauty.
So, having these wins and successes is important to us. But we usually set things up so that it is impossible to win.
We discount what we did get done and focus on what we did not get done ~ where’s the win in that?
We measure ourselves against an illusionary standard, the magical land of all caught up. (But there’s no such place. We are going to all die with things still on our to-do-list.) Since we are not all caught up we fall short of the ideal ~ where’s the win in that?
Instead, we need to set things up so that we can win. Pick two or three important tasks for the day and then when we get them done, we have won. We can always do more but we’ve already won! And, then celebrate the win!
Celebrating what we did get done is a key habit to develop! Do the happy dance. Give a double fist pump. Ring a bell. Pat yourself on the back. Developing this habit will make a huge positive impact in your life.
Much Love,
Jonathan
