The impact we have on others ~ unconsciously offensive
I had an overnight flight last night from Manila to Port Moresby. The guy sitting in front of me seemed to need to readjust himself about every 5 minutes. And, he seemed intent on doing it in the most forceful way possible. It was like he coiled up and jumped into the back of his seat over and over and over – thus jolting my little world.
One could deduce that he gave no thought to what impact his actions were having on others. That got me to thinking. How often do my actions negatively impact others and I’m oblivious to that impact?
I’m sure that the answer to that is “far more often than I’d like.” For example: not giving someone my full attention, bumping into someone and not apologizing, shifting forcefully in my own airplane seat, taking someone for granted, not being appreciative, and . . . potentially lots of little things.
‘d like to think that this little “aha” will be a wake up call for me to be more aware and mindful of the impact I’m having at any given time. And of course, only time will tell.
Much Love,
Jonathan
