Tarnished vs broken
A very common trap that people fall into is thinking that they are bad or wrong or broken or need to be fixed. This means that they believe that something is wrong with them at a fundamental level of their being.
This perspective is inaccurate and very damaging.
Imagine a silver platter that is tarnished. The platter is not broken or defective, just tarnished. A little polish and elbow grease and the platter will look as good as new. The tarnish disappears, and the beauty emerges.
This is a much more accurate, kind, and useful way to look at ourselves. We are not broken or defective, but there are some areas where we are tarnished. With a little effort, we can remove the tarnish and let the beauty emerge.
Tarnished and broken are not the same thing.
Much Love,
Jonathan
