Retaliation
This morning I was sitting in my car, finishing up a phone call. A woman pulled into the space next to me and since I had backed into the parking space, we were driver’s side door to driver’s side door.
She opened her door and it hit my car. She then got out of her car and pretended this never happened. She never made eye contact with me. She just walked into the building.
After I finished my call, I got out and looked – and there was a small scratch on my car door. Immediately I had thoughts of retaliation.
Then about 2 seconds later, I had a much more useful thought. “This is not worth getting upset over. And, retaliation is certainly not who I want to be or how I want to live my life. There’s no way that getting upset about this will make my life better.” And that was it. I was over it and went about my day. (Evidence that I’ve come a long way!)
What would life be like if we gave up our right to be offended? – Or at the very least saved it for big things rather than petty things.
Much Love,
Jonathan
