Correction or punishment
Most of us, if not all of us, have experienced punishment in our lives. The message was clear – we were bad or wrong and needed to be punished.
And, a lot of this probably happened in childhood which served to condition us towards a punishment viewpoint.
This can lead to us viewing correction as punishment. Doing this causes problems.
Correction comes from love, from a desire to help us to become the best we can be. If we view that as punishment, we will probably shut down and won’t learn and grow. We won’t make the improvement.
It is important for us to be able to tell the difference between correction and punishment – and then to respond appropriately to the correction.
Much Love,
Jonathan
