Communication and Attention
I know a guy and every time he talks, I end up tuning out. No matter how hard I try, I cannot stay with him. And, he talks about some topics that I am very interested in.
What I’ve noticed is that when he talks, even though he wants to share his info and insight with others, he has most of his attention on himself. It’s almost like he’s rolling the words around in his head, savoring them and being delighted by them, before he speaks them.
Although he does this to an extreme degree, I suspect that most of us do this at times and it negatively impacts our ability to communicate.
If you want to communicate impactfully and hopefully effectively, make sure that your attention is on the person or people that you are talking to rather than on yourself.
Much Love,
Jonathan
