Darkness flashlight
Imagine a darkness flashlight that projects more darkness rather than light. The uses for this would be rather limited and most of the time it would just make things worse.
However, this is what people do so often. We have the mistaken notion that sympathy, empathy, and compassion somehow require us to feel bad too – otherwise it is not genuine. As soon as we feel bad, we are adding our darkness to a dark situation. This cannot help.
Dark situations need more light! Effective compassion, sympathy, and empathy are delivered with light (hope, optimism, love, keeping our hearts open, etc.). It is the light that allows people to find their way out of the darkness.
The only cure for darkness is light.
Much Love,
Jonathan
