Worst case scenarios and the boogeyman
In general, focusing on worst case scenarios is not a good strategy. However, for short periods of time, this can be useful because an examined worst case scenario is usually far less horrible than the imagined worst case scenario. That scenario tends to be straight from the mind of the boogeyman who’s determined to get you.
For example, when I was going through a rough stretch, the boogeyman worst case scenario had me losing everything, having no friends, and living under a bridge, never to see the light of day again. That’s pretty grim and certainly can foster anxiety.
Then I examined my actual worst case scenario. I’d be living in my mom’s basement. That’s not ideal. That’s certainly not my dream life but, it is also a long way from homeless, friendless, and under a bridge.
Getting real chased the boogeyman away.
Much Love,
Jonathan
