The Missing Word

Share this:

A lot of confusion and suffering gets created because we are missing a word in the English language. We need a word for the good kind of selfish ~ self-full.

Notice how you cringe when you hear that word selfish. We all know that it is a bad thing to be selfish. But that’s the only word we have and so sometimes when we engage in activities that make us a better person, we are afraid that we are being selfish. Then we get conflicted.

Personal growth work, activities that recharge our batteries, prayer, meditation, exercise etc. are usually self-full not selfish. (Of course these can be done in a selfish way e.g. being so committed to my exercise that I ignore my family.)

Self-full is good, very good. Selfish is not.

Much Love,

Jonathan
